On November 16, my new book gets born. It’s my first attempt at a fable, and it’s called The Shibumi Strategy–A Powerful Way to Create Meaningful Change. It’s already available for pre-order, and if you click on The Shibumi Strategy tab above, you can find out more about the story, and where to order it. There’s even a free download of the first chapter so you can sample the goods, as it were. I think it’s a tale of the times, and carries an important message for everyone as we recover from our troubled economy.
I had a lot of fun writing it. But writing a book is just the beginning. To bring it into the world—to give birth to it—is a big job on all on its own. There’s lots to do: build this site, build an iPhone app, create a “book trailer” video, develop the Facebook like page, work with my publisher and publicist to capture some media attention, get my Twitter followers, blogger network, and past readers of my other books in on the plan to get the buzz going…see what I mean?
SO, what I thought I’d do between now and then is devote this blog to a daily blow-by-blow account of the activities behind the scenes. Maybe you want to publish a book someday, or maybe you’re just curious about the process. I figure we can all learn the way on the way, because I’m doing things much differently this time, and am far more involved than I’ve ever been.
In the meantime, I’ll keep my writing my weekly OPEN columns, which appear every Friday in “The World” section of the the Idea Hub (see sidebar to connect), and my old blog, InPursuitofElegance.com, will just point people to OPEN, and eventually that blog will go away.
There are 55 calendar days between now and November 16. Today is “T minus 55 and counting.”
T Minus 55: Today:
As you can see, I’m fleshing out this site. I’m using a WordPress Theme called Twenty Ten, and I’m personally tweeking it to look the way I want it to. I’ve spent the last week learning CSS, because when you use a WordPress theme that’s how you customize the look, the sidebar, the pages and navigation. I learned through the WordPress Forums and by visiting W3Schools.com.
The framework is about done, and now I have to add content!

Woo hoo! Can’t wait to get my copy! I have to wait until November?
